Some design decisions require discussion. Others are obvious.
For this high-end spec home in Truckee, California, we knew the range wall needed to be more than functional, it needed to feel intentional, balanced, and beautiful. The conversation started long before cabinetry was installed, with detailed field measurements to ensure the existing conditions and future cabinet layout could successfully accommodate a hidden pantry door. After exploring both options, a traditional interior door and a concealed cabinet door, the answer became clear.
It had to be hidden. There was simply no other option.
The result is a perfectly symmetrical range wall that elevates the entire kitchen while providing effortless access to the pantry. It creates a seamless visual experience, allows for quick dinner clean-up, and offers the perfect place to tuck away everyday messes before guests arrive.
Of course, bringing a concept like this to life requires more than a great idea. We worked
closely with our cabinet maker (bless his heart) to obsess over every detail. Was the cabinet face proportioned correctly? How thick should the door be? Where should the hardware be placed to best function? What swing direction made the most sense? Every question mattered.
The beauty of a hidden door is that when it's done right, no one notices it. They simply experience a kitchen that feels effortless, refined, and thoughtfully designed.
And that's exactly the point.
